HUGH LORING FAMILY DONATION HEIFER FUNDRAISER
On behalf of several 2025 CPRA steer Riders, Luke Moorhead is generously donating a heifer to be auctioned in support of their fellow steer rider and friend, Tanner Loring. This heifer is to be auctioned at Cowtown's Prairie Crown Heifer Showcase and Sale Wednesday April 15, 2026 @ 1:00 PM at Maple Creek, SK.
All proceeds from the sale of this heifer will go to Shelly, Brandon and Tanner Loring.
The Loring family recently faced a devastating loss with the passing of Hugh Loring – Tanner's father, who was tragically killed while helping a motorist. This donation is a small way to stand beside Tanner and his family during such a difficult time, and show the support and strength of the rodeo community.
The heifer Luke has chosen comes from his purebred Hereford program and comes with special meaning. She is out of a heifer he purchased from Donnie Gillespie using funds from the Arnal Brothers Bursary he was honored to receive.
Luke proudly showed this heifer's dam in 4-H, where she went on to be named Grand Champion Heifer in his club.
The memories and good times these boys shared on the rodeo trail in the summer of 2025 will be remembered forever. Competing against and cheering each other on at all Canadian Pro Rodeos throughout the season gave these young men a group of friends for life. Graduating to junior bull riding and other events, these boys keep in touch and follow each other's progress. The loss of Hugh has touched these kids as well – knowing him not only as Tanner's dad, but as a presence behind the chutes, and a man that they could all shoot the breeze with after the riding was done.
2025 Steer Riders – Luke Moorhead, Cecil Baynton, Dayton Cronkhite, Jason Wills, Jack Emerson, Rex Curtis, Ridge Flundra, Ryder Topolinski, Ethan McPhee, Jax Torkelson, Koaltyn Ogilvie, Taros Thomson, Riley Baird, Dason Big Plume, Stetson Hallaby, Hayes Howe, Gunner Armstrong, Jaxon Victoria.

END OF THE TRAIL RANCH (ELROSE, SK)
The Moen family represents a proud fifth-generation mixed agricultural operation with deep roots in the industry. In 1990, my father made the strategic decision to separate from the diversified operation and focus exclusively on cattle production, establishing End of the Trail Ranch as a dedicated cattle enterprise, laying the foundation for the herd we continue to build today
In 2010, I established my own cow herd by purchasing replacement heifers from my father's program. These females were primarily Angus-influenced, with select Simmental genetics incorporated to add maternal strength and performance. The emphasis has always been on retaining quality females, a philosophy that continues to shape our breeding decisions.
In 2017, I launched END OF THE TRAIL ANGUS, developing a purebred Angus herd dedicated to producing high-quality females and herd bulls for seedstock and commercial producers. Our commercial herd remains predominantly Angus-based, with some females tracing back to Simmental influence, maintaining a strong maternal foundation.
In recent years, herd sires have been sourced from our own purebred program, as well as respected programs such as MJT Cattle Co and Walter Angus. These partnerships and home-raised genetics allow us to maintain consistency, predictability, and performance within our cow herd.
Our program is built on disciplined selection and practical functionality. We cull heavily for udder quality, structural soundness, and temperament. In our challenging, dry environment, cows must be easy-fleshing, efficient, and capable of breeding back within a 60-day window. Fertility, longevity, and maternal reliability are non-negotiable traits.
At End Of The Trail Ranch, we are committed to raising practical, functional cattle that work for the commercial cattleman—cattle designed to thrive under real-world conditions while maintaining the genetic integrity and consistency our customers can rely on. This particular set of heifers received Pyramid FP5 + Presponse - Fermicon 7 Somnugen as calves. In the spring they will receive Express 5 & Covexin Plus.
